M Cafe is a Hong Kong HK cuisine style restaurant in Coquitlam. It features many classic Hong Kong and Chinese dishes. We went there during lunch. Below is the review along with the prices for the lunch entrée items that we ordered.
M Cafe Satay Beef Fried Flat Rice Noodle (Price: $14.45)
The M Cafe Satay Beef Fried Flat Rice Noodle contains beef, pineapples, green peppers, red peppers and onions. It is all stir-fried with satay sauce and flat rice noodle. This was a tasty dish. The price for this was $14.45. Like most HK style cafes, most entrée lunch items come with a free hot drink as well.
M Cafe Baked Tomato Sauce Seafood Fried Rice (Price: $15.45)
M Cafe offers build your own baked western dishes. You can choose a variety of different sauces, proteins and carbohydrates. I choose Italian tomato sauce, seafood and fried rice. I really like their tomato sauce as its creamy and a little sweet. The seafood includes shrimp, fish, mussel. There’s also some cheese on top of the sauce as well. This is all put on top of a layer of fried rice with eggs. The dish is then baked for a short while melting the cheese. Seafood and tomato sauce are one of my favourite items to get. Usually, HK style cafes only offer Tomato Baked Pork Chop Rice or Creamy Baked Seafood Rice. As such, it was really nice that I get to customize it. Price is $15.45. Like most HK style cafes, most entrée lunch items come with a free hot drink as well.
Hot Lemon Tea & Cold Lemon Tea (Price: Included with lunch entree items; $1 extra for cold drinks)
For the lunch items that we ordered, it comes with a complimentary hot drink. You can choose from milk tea, lemon tea and more. For a cold drink, you need to add an extra $1. I requested mines to have no ice. However, they messed up and gave me ice still. In addition, there were tea leaves in my drink. It seems like they didn’t filter it well this time. The drink was quite poor as a result as I kept drinking onto the tea leaves.
Overall, it was a decent meal. However, I was disappointed with my drink as there were small tea leaves on it. I also ordered on the M Cafe App as they offer 10% off if you order on there. Basically, they give you a QR code and you just scan it and order on the app and they bring you the food. Seems like you do some of the server’s job so it makes sense to get the 10% discount.
One other thing to note is that they were using paper menus which you use a pencil to check off. In the past, they had the actual permanent menus with pictures and everything. It seems like they reuse these paper menus which kind of defeats the purpose of them using it for COVID-19.
